Andy McIlwain…Again!

I know, I know. I already blogged about Andy McIlwain. He’s the keynote speaker for WordCamp Rochester this Saturday! Andy is going to talk with us about the WordPress community. Ya’ know, as a wapuu, I HAVE to remind you to not miss this keynote. Andy is talking about my community and how awesome it is. All the who’s, what’s, and why’s to inspire newbies and make seasoned WordPressers rethink your assumptions about what WordPress can do. See you on Saturday!

AJ Morris

How does a small retail business get online? By teaming up to form their own ecommerce marketplace! AJ Morris loves teaching people who are afraid of technology but use it every day. And he’ll be speaking at WordCamp Rochester about how a group of brick-and-mortar shops came together to to build an integrated online store.

Are you coming to the After Party?

Will I see you at the After Party? It will be full of food, fun and networking! Even after a full day of WordCamp sessions, I l-o-v-e- the After Party. By day I stuff my brain full of WordPress learning. By night I stuff my round yellow tummy full of food and drinks and hang out with fellow WordCampers.

I love to sing – I don’t need any prodding to belt out a tune. This year I may get the courage to sing a song I made up for my fellow WordCampers:

Chorus: Oh give me a home where WordCampers roam
where developers and the rest of us play
where seldom is heard an admin’s moan
and comments are not spammed all day.

Oh! give me some cookies and a happiness bar
where visual and text editors play
where my questions and concerns may feel bizarre
and plugins are shared all the day.

Chorus: Oh give me a home where WordCampers roam
where developers and the rest of us play
where seldom is heard an admin’s moan
and comments are not spammed all day.

Oh! give me some tips to find WordPress bliss
where parent and child themes play
Where SEO is not a myth
And accessibility is here to stay

Chorus: Oh give me a home where WordCampers roam
where developers and the rest of us play
where seldom is heard an admin’s moan
and comments are not spammed all day.

Exploring Rochester Part 3

While exploring Rochester, I’ve been occasionally confused with a beaver – of all things! Now I have nothing against beavers, but I’m a Wapuu!

But one place that this has never happened is when I’ve visited one of Rochester’s best kept secrets, ArtisanWorks – a truly one of a kind art gallery.

The place is amazing and packed with 40,000 sq feet of all kinds of art from a full size, detailed, wood sculpture of a Harley Davidson motorcycle by Ross Rider to paintings, taxidermy, stained glass, sculptures, antique cars, etc. They have some very special rooms such as the Frank Lloyd Wright Room and another space that has a kitchen, Japanese dining and a pool table and that isn’t even the half of it.

It’s the kind of place where I’m constantly punching my companion in the arm, saying “Look at this!” It can change your mind about what an art gallery is all about. Here’s an article that does a much better job of describing ArtisanWorks than I can. It is a one-of-a-kind place and is not to be missed!
